Yes, a referral is needed to schedule your comprehensive exam. This is a more detail assessment of your vision and it involves various types of testing. Referrals from your primary care doctor, or insurance company is needed prior to your appointment.

We accept most major insurance: Blue Cross, Aetna, United Healthcare, Tricare, Healthnet, Medicare, if your insurance company is not listed please contact your carrier we might be on their list.

A comprehensive eye exam requires the patient’s eyes to be dilated and this will cause light sensitivity that may last for a few hours. Depending on the individual and the distance of travel, some may feel fine and others may need someone else to drive.

Depending on the nature of the eye exam, some tests may take a little longer. An average appointment may take up 2-3 hours long.

You may resume working on the computer the day after surgery. As a precaution, use the 20-20-20 rule, which means every 20 minutes focus your eyes on an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds. A phone reminder or timer is recommended to stay on track.

Just like the computer, wait 24 hours after your surgery. We suggest using voice commands for your phone if you need to use it.

We understand it’s tempting to watch your favorite show after surgery, but you may resume TV, electronics, and reading the day after surgery. Take the 24 hours after surgery to sleep as much as possible.

You may wear eye makeup after one week. Other makeup is okay, such as foundation, but should not be applied in the area between the eyebrow and cheekbone.

The surgeon uses the laser to create the corneal flap. This technology gives surgeons the ability to customize the corneal flap for every individual patient. Recent studies done by Zeimer shot that this technology may now make it possible to treat patients with LASIK who were previously dismissed as a candidate due to thin corneas.

You may drive the day after surgery if you feel safe and comfortable.

Most patients can return to work a day or two after the procedure since most patients notice dramatic visual results within the first few days after their procedure. The speed of recovery depends on personal healing patterns since patients with higher prescriptions may recover more slowly.
