Dr. Benjamin Smith, MD

Benjamin Smith, M.D., Comprehensive Ophthalmologist, recently joined the Tucson community and will be working with Hodges Eye Care & Surgical Center.

Dr. Smith grew up in Albuquerque, received his bachelor’s in Physics from Brigham Young University, and medical degree from Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences.

He was further educated with an internship at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Augusta, GA and an ophthalmology residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

His focus is delivering the best techniques with the latest technologies.

Serving in the Army since 1998, Retired COL Smith and his family have lived in Maryland, Georgia, Louisiana, San Antonio, and El Paso, Texas. Dr. Smith spent 10 years teaching cataract and refractive surgery, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery and trauma to young ophthalmologists. He has deployed twice to Baghdad as a trauma ophthalmologist, to Morocco for collaboration work, and has served multiple humanitarian medical missions to Honduras, El Salvador, Zanzibar, Peru, Burkina Faso, Panama, and Dominican Republic. He and his wife Stephanie have 6 children and 1 grandchild. They enjoy hiking and outdoors with their family.
